PAST PROJECTS
This very moment - We Gather
A commission from Salisbury International Festival and Dance Six-0 in 2016. Set in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close amongst Sophie Ryder’s monumental sculptures, this dance work celebrated the fleeting nature of live performance, focusing on the delicate qualities of human interaction and exchange.
Designed Elements
A Youth commission from Siobhan Davies Dance in 2014, Designed Elements was a performance created in collaboration with Landscape Designer, Anoushka Feiler. Made in partnership with CityScapes and Corsica Studios, this performance celebrated the transformational qualities of movement, people and plants in a transient space.
Embodied Drawing
In constant flux between process and product - intimate danced duets take place on top of large white sheets of paper, dotted with lumps of graphite, charcoal, chalk. The marks left become the document/trace of the dance that happened. In turn these drawings become the inspiration for the next dance.
LAND
LAND was an outdoor promenade work made for Morden Hall Park in 2012. Co-choreographed with Janine Harrington and Vanessa Cook and performed by 25 young people from London. The work was commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance as part of Big Dance.
Land into Light
Commissioned by Hastings Borough Council for Stade Saturdays as part of Big Dance 2012. Land into Light is a response to Gary Hume’s ‘flashback’ exhibition, the new Jerwood Gallery, and Hastings.
Becoming Land
Becoming Land (2012) was a short work commissioned by Turner Contemporary Gallery, Margate as part of their ‘Elemental’ exhibition and was performed alongside Hamish Fulton’s Walking Exhibition. It was the culmination of a research period in 2011 exploring life cycles of growth and decay.
The Nature of Things
The Nature of Things (2011) was a performance about universal patterns we find in the natural world. It is full of circles and spirals, wind blowing across long grass in open fields, birds flying. It is about Jennifer, Tom, Petra, Gavin and Tom working together to organise and re-organise themselves in an expansive landscape of movement and sound.
Mountain Dialogues
Mountain Dialogues (2010) was the outcome of research project, Notions of Journeying. With 3 dancers and original sound composed and performed live, the piece is about journeying.
A Still Return
This meditative solo (2008) was made in response to markings of time in the natural world. Its strict structure reflected the mathematical pattern of the sine wave, found in the changing length of daylight across the seasons, the turning of the tides. The original music and dance share a common overarching shape, but oscillate between moving in tandem and spiralling away on their own course.
