Charlotte Spencer is a choreographer, facilitator and occasional performer. As artistic director of Charlotte Spencer Projects she works across art forms and predominantly in outdoor environmental contexts. With the contribution of many remarkable artists, Charlotte creates choreographic experiences, curates events, gives talks, collaborates, disrupts and questions, takes dance onto bike tours, and is endlessly making maps.
Since initiating CSP in 2009, Charlotte has received commissions from Siobhan Davies Dance, Jerwood Gallery, Turner Contemporary, Brighton & Hove Libraries, London Contemporary Dance School and Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Charlotte is part of Sadler’s Wells Summer University 2015-18, an Artist Activator for Greenwich Dance and was associate artist at The Point, Eastleigh 2010-13. Charlotte leads Siobhan Davies Dance’s yearlong choreographic course for young people, Next Choreography.Charlotte was a priority artist for Dansce Dialogues 2 2012-14, and Tour d’Europe des Choreographes 2010/2011.
Charlotte has been invited for creative residencies at Choreographic Centres across Europe including K3 (Hamburg), Le Pacifique|CDC (Grenoble), Dance Ireland (Dublin), CCN|Caen (Caen),The Point (Eastleigh), Dartington (Devon), and Greenwich Dance (London). Charlotte graduated from LCDS in 2003 with a 1st Class BA (Hons). These days she lives in East Sussex.
Walking Stories – an audio walk for parks was created in 2013 through an expansive touring project, Cycle Stories. It is her most substantial work to date and was co-commissioned by DanSCe Dialogues 2, Greenwich Dance, individual co-commissioners and Arts Council England. She is currently working on a new ambitious production Is this a Wasteland? Other major works: Embodied Drawing (2012 – ongoing) The Nature of Things (2011), Mountain Dialogues (2010)
